Fostex Releases The AR-4i Audio Interface For Apple iPhone 4

The Fostex AR-4i is an audio interface dock and app for the iPhone4 with three mic inputs and two cardioid plug-in microphones.

The stereo microphone inputs with AD converter improve the audio quality of iPhone4’s video recording, video streaming via Ustream, LiveStream etc. as well as recording of live performance and ENG.

The AR-4i features include:

– Three stereo inputs (line/mic) for using 2 of the 3 simultaneously in vertical or horizontal configuration
– Input level control and EQ can be done using the dedicated software app.
– Two cardioid plug-in mics come with, but third-party mics can also be used.
– LED Level Meter for input level monitoring.
– Microphone gain control.
– Headphone jack for input monitoring.
– 2 x AAA batteries for more than 10 hours operation. External power can be fed via USB.
– Screw hole provided for optional camera gears such as tripod, grip etc.

And the new AR-4i iPhone 4 App is now available from the Apple App store. This application is a setup utility for the Fostex AR-4i and allows for editing and control of various parameters on the AR-4i, such as input level, microphone setting, EQ, filters, and more.

The AR-4i only works for iPhone 4 and 4s right now. The device is selling at B&H for $119.

    What kind of shotgun mic would you recommend could be used with this?

    Does this work with mics that have a 1/8″, 1/4″, or XLR plug? Can it work with a dynamic handheld microphone, or a shotgun mic with battery power like the Rode VideoMic Pro (which I happen to own)?

      Hey, this device apparently works with any mic that has a 1/8″ plug
