Berkleemusic.com, the online school of Boston’s Berklee College of Music, is debuting the new course “Music Supervision” for their upcoming winter term, beginning January 10th, 2011.

Berkleemusic.com has launched the online course "Music Supervision"

In this course, taught by award-winning composer and musician Brad Hatfield, students will learn the tools used by production teams, and discover the creative approaches, negotiation techniques, and licensing practices essential for artists who are interested in generating income from film or TV placements or students who want a career in music licensing.

The course begins with an overview of the many aspects of a music supervisor’s job and then delves into the history, theory, and application of combining music and media. It provides an overview of the tools used by production teams, in addition to creative approaches, negotiation techniques, and licensing practices— essential information for artists who are interested in generating income from film or TV placements or students who want a career in music licensing.

The course also contains exclusive interviews with music supervisors, sound and music editors, publishers, producers, engineers, and other music industry executives, including music supervisor Alex Patsavas, who has worked on over 60 films and television series (e.g., Grey’s Anatomy, Gossip Girl, and The O.C.), and vice president of music for 20th Century Fox Television, Ward Hake (Glee, Modern Family, 24, The Simpsons, Family Guy). Exercises, discussions, and assignments will be “real world,” using materials from feature films, TV, ads, radio, and video games.

By the end of this course, students will be able to analyze and satisfy the criteria for an effective music placement, discover resources for licensing music, or get their career started as a music supervisor.

Thanks for the promo guys! We are just wrapping up the first semester with students all over the world. Some incredibly talented folks with industry connections are in the “classroom” and are making new connections as we speak. This is a comprehensive course that not only covers the licensing and creative aspects, but also digital audio editing, negotiation and a host of other skills that are useful in all aspects of post production.

Inspired by the book http://www.musicsupervisioncentral.com/sales/ the course brings it to life with interviews with the folks that are doing it, and not afraid to tell their stories.

    Hope to see you there!
