Ampeg Announces Reissued V-4B All-Tube Bass Head, Two New SVT Cabinets
Originally released in 1971, the Ampeg V-4B 100W all-tube bass head was renowned for it’s distinct “grind” that became popular among bassists of the time.
Now, the addition of modern features in the new reissue improve upon the classic in great ways like lighter weight, better serviceable construction and more connectivity options to ensure that the tone of the original remains intact no matter how users play through it.
Ampeg has also announced two new SVT bass cab models – The SVT-112AV and the SVT-212AV. This release will mark the first time Ampeg has released bass cabinets housing 12-inch drivers in over a decade.
All three additions will be available from Ampeg in September 2013. The Ampeg V-4B will be available for $1819.99 MSRP, the SVT-112AV for $699.99 MSRP and the SVT-212AV for $979.99 MSRP. And now, more info on the new hotness from Ampeg:
Ampeg V-4B 100W All-Tube Bass Head
While the new V-4B is sure to appeal to fans of the classic original, it is also ideal for bassists who crave the tone of the Ampeg SVT head, but don’t need that level of power or who want a more portable option. The V-4B is the same width as the SVT-CL and SVT-VR head and fits securely onto any Classic Series Ampeg cabinet including the all-new SVT-112AV and SVT-212AV.
The Ampeg V-4B design process involved sampling a wide range of vintage V-4B heads for reference with a goal of
achieving preamp and power section circuits and overall tone that are undeniably V-4B. However, by using a modern-day analog approach, there is an increase in both reliability and serviceability. A focused addition of modern features includes an integrated DI with ground lift, a -15dB input for active basses and a range of speaker outputs at different impedances. Maintaining the tone and integrity of the classic V-4B was the primary design goal, but the addition of these features adds flexibility and functionality perfect for today’s players.
Two New SVT Cabinet Designs
Both new cabinets are built using rugged 15mm poplar ply and deliver on the vintage Ampeg look, featuring AV Tolex and grille cloth. The classic black grille is available separately from Ampeg for those that want to pair the cab with an SVT-CL or other Ampeg head. With a choice of a single or dual 12’’ design, both with a 1” compression driver, the new SVT cabs provide even more possibilities when building an Ampeg bass rig.
Rated at 300W RMS power handling at 8 ohms, the SVT-112AV is a great match with PF-350, Micro-VR or for integrating with other Ampeg cabinets into a single rig. The SVT-212AV is a 4 ohm cab rated for 600W RMS. This is perfect for the all-new V-4B along with other heads like the SVT-CL, SVT-VR or PF-500.
