Event Choice: Sylvia Massy Studio Workshop Dec. 8th – San Francisco
Wherever you live, there’s a very good reason to be in San Francisco in early December.
Tickets are on sale now for a workshop with producer/engineer Sylvia Massy (Tool, Sevendust, System of a Down, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers) on Saturday, December 8th at SoMa’s Studio Trilogy. Massy will be recording San Francisco indie rock collective The Family Crest there, and sharing her deep expertise in the process.
The event is put on by Alan Parsons’ Art and Science of Sound Recording (ASSR), and promises a good deal of action, including a Skype call with Parsons. The price of admission is $675, with a discount for AES SF members.
Here’s how ASSR describes the Massy workshop:
“This 1-day event is a rare opportunity for recording students, enthusiasts and professionals alike to ‘sit-in’ on a recording session from start to rough mix. Participants will be seated in the SSL-equipped control room and/or will accompany or assist Sylvia in Studio A’s tracking room for miking and other recording tasks. Throughout, attendees will have the opportunity to see, hear and ask questions during all of the processes.
The band features violin, cello and flute in their otherwise rock line-up and Sylvia will be exploring vintage and modern compression, phase relationships and miking techniques (she will also bring along her favored vocal chain) in a day of what promises to be an inspirational mix of hard tech and artistry.
