Moog to Discontinue Minimoog Voyager Select Series
The cycle of life catches up with us all – even (and especially) analog synths.
Moog Music announced today that it will discontinue production of the Minimoog Voyager Select Series, which stands as the top selling backlit analog synthesizer of all time. The company will continue to build the Select Series through the end of 2012, with the final Select Series leaving the factory on Jan 1, 2013.
As a result, synthesis aficionados only have a short time left to get their hands on Moog‘s landmark customizable instrument (which counts Madonna, Dr. Dre, Alicia Keys, CeeLo Green, Lady Gaga, Sugarland, and scores more among its devotees). During the remaining months of production, Moog has reduced the selling price on all Select Series Voyagers significantly, from $3,659 to $2,999.
The Select Series is distinguished from other Minimoog Voyagers in that buyers can select and purchase any combination of six different wood cabinet styles and six backlight options (36 different possibilities in total) to make their Voyager distinctive and personalized.
The rest of the Minimoog Voyager line will continue on, just as Moog begins celebrating its 10th Anniversary. For eye candy and some fascinating information, check out the Minimoog Voyager timeline.
