The Compound Studio, the API-equipped recording facility in Long Beach, CA, has launched an electrifying and essential new drumloops release.

Let Freese’s drumloops free you up!

Their new arrival is Josh Freese Drumloops, a 28-track compilation of tracks from iconic drummer and songwriter Josh Freese. Freese is a permanent member of A Perfect Circle, The Vandals, and Devo, and has appeared on 400-plus recordings in his illustrious career.

As The Compound Studio points out, “Drumloops” is the next best (and more affordable) thing to hiring Josh for a project. But don’t take their word for it – take ours! We’ve checked them out, and they sound amazing. You can check them out for yourself right now, right here, where they’re available for immediate download for $3.99

Compound owner and chief engineer Anthony Arvizo explains the inspiration for “Josh Freese Drumloops”: “I have known of Josh since his early days with the Vandals. I had been their soundman on many local festival gigs and was knocked out by the new sound Joe Escalante had created by assembling a rock solid band of circus freaks to include Dave Quackenbush on vocals and Warren Fitzgerald on guitar with Josh’s hard-hitting syncopated madness behind the kit. Genius!

Josh has been visiting The Compound and most recently utilizing our space to practice before tours. It was during one of these sessions (whilst learning the Sublime set) when I asked about creating some loops for our benefit album.”

“Drumloops” is part of a full-length benefit compilation from The Compound called “SOS: Save Our Studio ¬ A Benefit Album,” which was released digitally in May and features 49 tracks from a variety of artists. Earlier in the year, debt threatened to shut down The Compound, which would have been a blow to the community that it is such a vital part of.

In a creative attempt to raise funds, Arvizu put out a call to former clients to contribute songs. Copies (plus liner notes, photos and bonus tracks) are available for $11.99 (or a higher donation) here.

“The Compound Studio has a great-sounding drum room and Anthony is a fantastic engineer,” adds Freese. “When he asked me if I would donate some drum loops to his benefit album I was happy to say yes. Long Beach needs this studio to stick around.”

There are a number of other $3.99 mini-compilations available from The Compound Studio, including: Guitar Heroes (featuring Chris Lizotte, Mike Watt and The Black Gang, The Steepwater Band feat. Marc Ford, Mike McCready and Friends, Marc Ford and friends, Jefferson Steelflex and his Neptune Society); Dreamweavers (Jameson, Jay Buchanan, Jusso, Neal Casal, CPO and The Saps, Matt Death and The New Intellectuals); Local Heroes (Avi Buffalo, Free Moral Agents, Crystal Antlers, MODE, Dumb Love, Elderly Rock Opera); Soul Searchers (Phantom Limb feat. The Compound Studio, in the beach town of Long Beach, CA, was established in 2001 by chief engineer and producer Anthony Arvizu. Since its inception, the studio has served a mix of regional bands (Free Moral Agents (Ikey Owens), Avi Buffalo, Crystal Antlers) and national artists (Mavis Staples, Marc Ford, Ryan Bingham, Mike Watt, Mike McCready, Ryan Adams, the Coldwar Kids) in its relaxed, organic recording environment.
