Jordan Galland Scores Tribeca Film Supporting Characters
NYC-based musician and composer (and filmmaker) Jordan Galland provided music and an original score for the independent comedy Supporting Characters, which is premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival tomorrow.
Supporting Characters chronicles the friendship of New Yorkers Darryl (Tarik Lowe) and Nick (Alex Karpovsky), a film editing duo hired to rework a movie in crisis, only to find themselves increasingly consumed with reworking their own personal lives.
Galland’s score is meant to mirror the characters’ quirks and relationship missteps, drawing inspiration from Little Miss Sunshine (Devotchka) and New York City itself.
In addition to eight original tracks, the Supporting Characters score also includes instrumental versions of songs Galland previously released on his own solo albums, Search Party and To The Top. [Read the SonicScoop feature on Galland]
Galland wrote/recorded the Supporting Characters music out of his NYC home studio. Ron Shaffer at Atlantic West Studios in Brooklyn mastered the score.

Supporting Characters director Dan Schechter first worked with Galland while editing the trailer for Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Undead, Galland’s 2010 debut feature film. When it came time to score the trailer, Galland provided a few tracks from his solo album Airbrush. The collaboration inspired Schechter to commission Galland for Supporting Characters, as his musical style matched the “New York romantic tragic comedy and neurosis of relationships,” and in exchange Shechter once again edited a film of Galland’s – the 2012 indie comedy Alter Egos (set for release later this year).
In addition to Supporting Characters, Galland has composed for and contributed music to projects like Lena Dunham’s Tiny Furniture, Krysten Ritter’s 2011 film L!fe Happens, the 2011 documentary Picture Me by Sarah Ziff, The Niestat Brothers’ HBO Original Series, and the music for his own film Alter Egos, with Sean Lennon.
