Blue Microphones Introduces Reactor — Multi-Pattern Recording Microphone
Blue Microphones has announced the availability of the latest addition to their lineup: Reactor (MSRP: $499) is a multi-pattern, large diaphragm condenser microphone that combines Blue’s proprietary pre-amp circuit and three-way pattern selection method (cardioid, omni or bi-directional) with a swiveling capsule head for precise positioning. As a result, Reactor is particularly well-suited for multiple mic setups. First announced in January, Reactor is now available from authorized Blue dealers.
Reactor’s capsule is based on the design of Blue’s B6 capsule which delivers a detailed top end, texture mids and a full bottom end. The microphone is built on Blue’s premium large diaphragm, condenser capsule design, together with a custom pre-amp platform that provides low noise and distortion. Reactor employs fully-discrete, Class-A solid state components.
Since users can select between cardioid, bi-directional and omnidirectional patterns, Reactor’s sound can be tuned to specific uses such as full and present vocals, warm guitar acoustics, or capturing the room frequencies of drums.
The swiveling design of Reactor’s capsule head allows it to rotate fluidly across a 90 degree range, with resistance to hold the head in a precise position. The swivel head facilitates ease-of-use in multiple mic setups such as Mid/Side or X-Y recording, and allows for accuracy and fine-tuning of setup geometry and microphone tone. The intuitive recording pattern selection features LED backlit pattern indicators and a magnifying optic.
Reactor also comes with a metal carrying case for protection and storage, a custom-designed shockmount and a custom magnetic pop filter.
