KEL Audio Releases HM-1x Condenser Microphone
Kel Audio is a microphone development company based out of Winnipeg, Canada who supports the increasingly popular trend in home recording – the driving force behind the design of their microphones. The company is sold on the fact that quality mics can indeed be yours with minuscule pocket pains.
Their release of the HM-1x was inspired by the mic that brought that company into existence – The KEL Audio HM-1. Their next-gen mic is a directional condenser mic that offers a clean, transparent character. The fact that KEL recognizes that a boost in the high end of a microphone’s frequency response can sometimes represent a false sense of clarity in a lot of other lower cost microphones is something to take note of in the HM-1x – Which for the most part is relatively flat.
The KEL Audio HM-1x can be yours for $279 USD each or $429 USD for a pair. For more specs and details from the designers themselves, read on:
“The HM-1x… Smooooth and un-hyped
The HM-1x is the next generation of the mic that launched KEL. The HM-1x features the same proven capsule and circuit topology, but has received significant component upgrades and mechanical upgrades. You’ll find big high-grade WIMA capacitors all over the PC board, as well as an ultra smooth styroflex cap between the capsule and FET for incredible detail and transparency.
The body is slightly larger but remains as compact and rugged as ever. Plus the shock mount is better and we’re once again including a handy swivel mount for use in tighter micing situations.
Unlike most affordable mics, the HM-1x doesn’t rely on excessive high frequency boosting to create artificial “clarity”. Instead it’s been engineered to have a full smooth character. These qualities allow the mic to sound good even when micing edgy or thin sounding sources. It also means the HM-1x can help you add variety and sonic interest to your recordings without having to always reach for the EQ.
Users are successfully recording everything from drum overheads and toms to acoustic and electric guitars, horns, mandolins, grand piano, banjos, vocals and more.
The mic ships with a plastic carrying case and shock mount and comes with a 1-year unconditional warranty plus a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If you don’t like what it does for your music return it in good condition within 30 days for a full refund.”
