Speedshape & DW Drums Launch Kitbuilder 2.0 Custom Drum Kit Visualizer (Video)
LA-based CG studio Speedshape and Drum Workshop (DW) have launched an innovative online web app, Kitbuilder 2.0, for visualizing, building and auditioning custom drum kits.
As DW is recognized for trademark customization of drum kits right down to the shell type, Speedshape is known for building interactive product customizers and configurators for web and mobile advertising utilizing VFX, digital assets and tailored, digital technology.
Made with mobile-friendly HTML5, Kitbuilder 2.0 is supported on various web browsers and mobile devices including iPhone and iPad, and allows for users to visualize drum and hardware finish combinations on three “Bebop,” “Standard” or “Fusion” archetype sets. Using an intuitive interface users can then create a fully custom overhead schematic with infinite combinations of drums, cymbals, hardware, pedals, accessories, shell types and sound comparisons.
Kit creations can easily be shared via Facebook, Twitter and TinyURL. Users can also customize kits from popular DW artists such as Tommy Lee, Dave Grohl, Neil Peart, Sheila E. and Steve Perkins.
The three main features of Kitbuilder 2.0 include the drum and hardware finish visualizer with front and rear views on three archetype kits, a fully customizable overhead layout design tool that utilizes finger gestures on touch iOS products, and sound reference and comparison of DW’s patented SSC sonic shell ply options. These features allow for non-linear toggling between building steps, seamless views of the kit’s assorted patterns, finishes and colors schemes, and the ability to instantly listen to the kit’s sound variations.
Data for thousands of images and models were collected to offer limitless drum kit possibilities. A full printable summary of the user’s kit creation is available at the end of the process, and using a zip code based directory of DW dealers, a quote can be generated and responded to via html graphic email.
