Sear Sound Continues Strong: Sessions With Bono & The Edge, Broken Social Scene, Lizz Wright
Walter Sear’s spirit lives on at Sear Sound, where artists including Bono, Broken Social Scene, Lizz Wright, and more have recently recorded new music.
U2‘s Bono and The Edge were in Studio ‘C’ recording music for Spiderman, the Musical, with producer Teese Gohl and engineer Carl Glanville. The project also occupied Studio A, where Bono’s gear was setup and Angie Teo was engineering additional material, with Rory Coleman producing.
The 14-piece Broken Social Scene also worked in both Studios A and C, recording tracks for Hal Willner’s sea shanties album. SNL’s Marty Brumbach engineered the session and was assisted by Chris Allen and David Schoenwetter.
In Studio C, producer Bob Belden and engineer Richard King produced a new recording of Sketches of Spain, a reworking of a Miles Davis album. The album features Chick Corea, Jack DeJohnette, John Scofield, Christian McBride and 25 other artists.
Producer Lindsay Baker worked with Sear’s chief engineer Chris Allen on tracks for the upcoming musical version of ‘Pride and Prejudice,’ in Studio ‘A.’
And the soulful Lizz Wright recorded in A with Kevin Allen and Brian Bacchus at the Neve 8083.
In Sear Sound’s Studio D, newly opened this year, Capitol /EMI produced tracks for the upcoming PBS Italian American musical special ‘Bellaria.’ Producer Craig Leon took charge of the session with Chris Allen engineering.
Earlier this year, Blonde Redhead tracked new material in Studio ‘A’ for 4AD Records with Drew Brown engineering and producing alongside the group. They enlisted the help of Walter Sear to program the Moog synthesizer.
Sear Sound is now looking forward to upcoming recordings with Fleet Foxes and Roberta Flack.
