Program on Sound & Silence This Friday At New York Public Library
Part of the “Live from the NYPL” series, a discussion on “Tactile Sound & The Pursuit of Silence In A Noisy World” will take place at the New York Public Library this Friday, April 9 at 7pm.
Presented in two parts, this event will first feature George Prochnik, author of In Pursuit of Silence: Listening for Meaning in a World of Noise, in conversation with “Live from the NYPL” director Paul Holdengräber.
In his book, Prochnik explores the benefits of decluttering our sonic world, speaking with neuroscientists, acoustical engineers, recording historians, educators, monks and more. Keep up with Prochnik’s pursuit and purchase the book via http://inpursuitofsilence.com.
Part two “Sound Excitement: Artists & Scientists On The Heard & Unheard” will feature artist Wendy Jacob presenting “Waves and Signs and a lineup of sound-exploring scientists discussing sound in a variety of environments.
This event is located in the Celeste Bartos Forum of The New York Public Library. Enter on 42nd Street near 5th Avenue and proceed to Celeste Bartos Forum. Box office opens at 5:00pm, Doors open at 6:15pm, Program begins at 7:00pm. Arrive early for seats!
