Gig Alert: Richard McGraw Performing at American Folk Art Museum, Friday 3/05
Self-described anti-anti-folk artist Richard McGraw will perform at NYC’s American Folk Art Museum on Friday, March 5th.
This performance is part of an Underwater New York event to celebrate the work of Nineteenth century maritime painter Thomas Chambers. The evening will include Shipwreck Stories and songs at the American Folk Art Museum’s Free Music Friday. More info at this link.
McGraw recently released his third album, Burying The Dead, a hauntingly dark Americana lyrical masterpiece reminiscent of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Tom Waits. Listen to the first single off the album, “Hurting Heart” here: free MP3
Aside from McGraw, Lindsay Sullivan and the Sailors will perform other shipwreck-themed songs. The event will host readings by Sara Weiss, Claire Shefchik, and David Hollander. There will also be a performance by Aaron Diskin and Annette Kogan of an original musical fragment by Ben Greenman.
The event is free and will take place from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. The American Folk Art Museum is located at 45 W 53rd St, between 5th and 6th Avenues – just down the street from the Museum of Modern Art.
