Ableton Releases Max For Live
Max For Live is here! This Ableton and Cycling ’74 collaboration, in development over 2+ years, effectively integrates Max/MSP with Ableton Live, allowing users to create and edit their own devices — unique synths and effects, algorithmic composition tools, or hybrid hardware/software music machines — within Live.
Devices created with Max for Live are seamlessly integrated into Live’s interface and workflow, just like the “home-grown” Ableton instruments and effects.
For those less interested in building their own devices, Max for Live includes a collection of premium instruments and effects, pre-made and ready to use alongside Live’s native devices. AND, once the builders start building, even passive Max for Live users will potentially have access to countless innovative new tools.

Max for Live, which runs on Ableton Live 8, includes creative tools and effects such as a Step Sequencer, Buffer Shuffler, Loop Shifter, Pluggo for Live, Button Matrix Step Sequencer and the official Live API, which provides access to controller hardware for creating new mappings that can completely repurpose a hardware device. Available for sale on the Ableton web shop (http://www.ableton.com) and from selected music retailers, Max For Live retails at $299. Users who already own Max 5 can buy Max for Live for $99.
