Trident A-Range Channel EQ Now a UAD Plug-In!
Over the summer, Universal Audio announced that digital emulations of classic Trident consoles would be coming soon on the UAD Platform. And, just yesterday, they announced the EQ plug-in based on the legendary Trident A-Range Console!

With only 13 of these desks ever built, the Trident A-Range Console is one that few recording engineers and producers (relatively) have ever had the chance to work on. At Trident Studios in the UK and Cherokee Studios in LA, records by David Bowie (The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust), Lou Reed (Transformer) and Queen (Sheer Heart Attack), among many others, were made using the A-Range.
Universal Audio has painstakingly reproduced the EQ section from one of these rare desks, bringing the magic of this console to the UAD platform.
The particular console the plug-in emulates was originally commissioned for Le Studio and later purchased by Elliot Smith. The console still resides in what was Smith’s studio, now known as New Monkey Studios, in Van Nuys, CA, operated by musician/producers Joel Graves (of Earlimart) and Robert Cappadona.
The Trident A-Range Channel EQ Powered Plug-In runs on the Mac and Windows compatible UAD-1 and UAD-2 DSP accelerator cards and its features include:
– 4-band active EQ modeled from one of only 13 original Trident A-Range desks
– Unique filter response curves modeled to exacting detail
– Inductor-based EQ design yields band interaction between bell and shelving
filters
– Unique ability to combine cut filters for unusual filtering responses
This VST, AudioUnits and RTAS-compatible plug-in runs in a fully-functioning demo mode on the UAD card for 14 days, during which it can be purchased directly from the UA online store for $249.

The Trident A-Range Classic Console EQ Powered Plug-In is available as part of the new UAD software version 5.5.0 release. In addition to the Trident A-Range EQ plug-in, version 5.5.0 includes a Mellowmuse ATA RTAS plug-in update to v1.4, performance enhancements for Mac users and ‘Higher Performance’ graphics mode functionality for the UAD-2 SOLO/Laptop on newer MacBook Pro models.
