CMJ Music Marathon Announces Panels
This year’s CMJ Music Marathon is happening October 20-24. CMJ reports that 1,300 artists will play 75 music venues throughout the city, attracting an expected 120,000 music fans. You’ll probably hit up some showcases in the evenings, but also, be sure to check out all the daytime events and panel discussions CMJ’s just announced.
CMJ’s daytime sessions will take place at NYU’s Kimmel Center in Greenwich Village and include panels, keynote speeches, networking events, the annual College Day gathering, mentoring sessions, tutorials, an “interactive registrants lounge lifestyle area” and an Artists’ Lounge for musicians. The event will also host its annual CMJ continuing legal education seminar, The Entertainment Business Law Seminar, presented by CMJ Music Marathon and The Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section of the New York State Bar Association.
Panels confirmed so far include the music panels: Small Efficient Record Label – Big Results, Exactly Why Did The Major Label System Fail? Or Did It?; Creating Music With The Newest Technology; A View Of The Music Industry From A Minor’s Perspective; “I’m In Between Gigs,” A Music Industry Job Think Thank, The Real Meaning Of D.I.Y. And Quitting Your Day Job; and A Full-On Major (Label, Publishing, Management, Licensing) Pitch Session.
Corresponding with the simultaneous CMJ Film Festival are a few daytime events with crossover value for music people, including Déjà Vu All Over Again: What the Film Business Can Learn from the Music Business in the New Economy, Crossing the Line: Actors Who Sing, Singers Who Act and Breaking Into Film Scoring.
The first round of performing bands should be announced before the end of August. In the meantime, check out http://www.cmj.com/marathon for more information.
